More Cities Added to the Mix
October 11th, 2007 by ChrisSloan
Originally 5 cities had been rumored as possible homes for UFL teams in 2008; recently that list has been expanded to included the following: Austin, Texas; Birmingham, Ala.; Columbus, Ohio; Louisville, Ky.; Memphis, Tenn.; Oklahoma City, OK; and Raleigh, N.C.

Please consider(as reported in Newsday 11/03/07)LI NY for a team. The Giants & Jets belong to NJ (Jets are leaving Hofstra training facility)
Other suggestions.
1.
Play your games and schedules head to head with the NFL. This may sound crazy in the begining, however starting your games at halftime of the nfl games ensures a switchover audiance (from a boring or blowout NFL game ,and continues with Nfl game ending audience)
The last football being talked about on sunday nite & monday morning would be UFL football.
2. Do not repeat past start up league errors of ending season in November ; Nov. is the start up month for real fan interest.Ending in Nov. means leaving the NFL the only game town.
3.
If you setup divisions east& west for startup ;the last 4 weeks of play should be within division play (reconizing 8 team start up is difficult)in order to provide some assurance that 2 best teams meet for a 3 game championship series.
4. I wish the United Football League the best of luck in it’s startup & future success. In my opinion the league is wanted and needed. When you start & play a complete season (hopefully 16 games) The NFL cannot claim that Superbowl determines the world champion of pro football.

One thing you could do is have a Lamar Hunt type owner invest in Omaha,Nebraska and bring a team there. You could even invest in smaller cities like Spokane,Boise,Tucson would be great because they have 400,000 people with no pro teams period, and like El Paso with 500,000 and over a million and a half just across the boarder in Ciudad Juarez and also Ft.Worth as well as Hartford,Wichita,Savahhnah and all kinds of smaller cities that a potential owner could bring a regular business into and grow a smaller city into a larger city that could have an United Football League franchise so that is another way to go.
November 9th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
UNITED FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAMS:
Austin Ambush
Birmingham Explorers
Columbus Shellers
Las Vegas Dice
Los Angeles Dynamite
Memphis Steam
Mexico La Banderillo(Mexico City)
New York Fireballs
Oklahoma Revolvers(Oklahoma City)
Orlando Wonder
Carolina Cats(Raleigh,North Carolina)
Sacramento Comet
San Antonio Showdown
And as for the other cities:
Milwaukee Barnburners
Rochester Excelsiors
Omaha Hot Dogs
Spokane Explosions
Boise Combines
El Paso Amigos
Fort Worth Stompers
Tucson Twilight
Hartford Crowns
Wichita Burner
And another thing:the divisions will be called UFL EAST AND UFL WEST AND NOT Eastern Division and Western Division because UFL EAST AND UFL WEST JUST SOUNDS COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!So I will give you more ideas in the future like the bonus point line(opponates 40-yard-line where a touchdown pass is worth 7 points instead of 6 points and a field goal is worth 4 points instead of 3 points. It’s right up Mark Cuban’s NBA alley). Thanks alot and much success,Roger Evans.

You know you could have the Portland Timbermen from Portland,Oregon and ask bill gates if he would be interested in owning a team and the New York Fireballs might just be perfect for Donald Trump.

Well some of you have some pretty good nicknames but some have already been used and some are just not really original enough.See,we don’t want to have old stuffy nicknames like in the NFL or college or high school. We want something new because it’s a new league and new fancy logos and uniforms and helmets(plus I am in favor of home and road helmety(hey look at Oregon)).You know lets spice it up and why not a few new rules.I like my idea of having overtime like high school and college but starting each overtime possesion with A TWO MINUTE WARNING(meaning they have two minutes to get the balls in the endzone whereas they have no time limit per overtime possesion in high school or college)!!!!!!!!!!!You see that way it makes it professional.Pretty cool eh?(I’m not Canadian,it just sounds trhat way.)And if Major League Soccer can build their own stadiums why can’t the United Football League build their own stadiums as long as they don’t need to be so big.Just some ideas to ponder.Keep up the good work people.Roger Evans.

How are Raleigh, NC being considered when the Panthers play just down the road in the same small state?
VIRGINIA IS THE LARGEST STATE WITHOUT A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM PEOPLE!!! 8 million people!
Hampton Roads has well over a million residents not including Richmond which is just over an hour away.

Stephen - In response to your post…
N.C. is not a small state like you state in your post. It is actually the 10th largest state in the country. It is also larger than Virginia in terms of population.
Raleigh-Durham is 2.5 hours away from Charlotte, which is not that close and is farther away than most Virginia metros are to D.C.
Raleigh-Durham-Cary is the 35th largest metro area in the country. Seeing that most pro leagues have 32 teams, the Triangle region of N.C. is just on the cusp of the ‘pro sports barrier’. With a growth rate of over 19% since 2000, Raleigh-Durham will likely be a top 32 market by 2010.
Anyway my point is that your comments are false about the Raleigh-Durham area and comparisons to cities/regions in Virginia.
I believe the Raleigh-Durham area and the Hampton Roads area are both options for future pro sports. I’d give the edge to Raleigh-Durham though just because of the growth rate and economic conditions of the two areas, but I could see both areas getting a team in some sport in the next 10 years.

I guess if Mark Cuban owns the Los Angeles team it could be called the Los Angeles Mavericks ha ha ha,get it?
February 25th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
I like Jay Cahill’s list of team names, especially the Shreveport Pirates. Being from Shreveport, I would love to see the return of the Pirates. The thing about Shreveport, we will support our sports team. We support the Mudbugs (hockey team) and the Sports (minor league baseball team), and we did support the original Shreveport Pirates until the evil CFL got rid of all the American teams.
