Football Starved - Bring on Friday Night National TV

December 2nd, 2007 by ChrisSloan

I can’t get enough; football, football, football and if I didn’t mention it I need just one more night of football. Saturday is college game day, Sunday is NFL game day, we’ve got Monday Night Football and now the NFL Network has their Re-Play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. My two boys are years away from High School and I grew up in Houston so I don’t have a strong tie to any of the area schools. So every Friday night I’m stuck watching cheesy family sitcoms and high school highlights; I’d love to kick back after a long week with a pizza, some wings, some ice cold beverages and high-speed professional football game. The UFL is planning to give me that chance and if they put a team down in Austin I’ll be rooting for a Friday and Saturday team from the Lone Star state. Don’t get me wrong, come Sunday I’ll be backing the Cowboys, you know, Tony Romo and company, but at least now I won’t be waiting to get my football fix.

The championship game will be called the UFL BOWL and the all-star game will be called the STARS BOWL.

  5. Nick Says:

what a horrible idea, it will fall flat on its face just like everything else, theres only one true pro football league and thats how it will always be, give it up

Cool idea any idea when they are holding tryouts?

I think that the UFL will succeed simply because it won’t compete with the NFL or college football. It will be for the fans that isn’t into high school football because either they don’t have kids that play or they’re not into it. As for the TV contract, cablewise, it should go to either Versus, TNT, or USA. TV-wise, I see either The CW or My Network TV.

Nick, shut up and leave us alone.

Well said, Roger. I hate when someone say something negative about something new. So what if the UFL fails? At least it will compete against the NFL for fans (although most football fans will probably go for both since they won’t go head-to-head) unlike other leagues before them.

I’m in the same boat. Though I’m a lifelong and very serious Bucs fan, I watch most any football I can (College, Arena, the NFL Europe when it existed, ect.) to get my fix. I am very interested in seeing if this can work, and hope it does– we even had season tix for the Rage during the XFL’s one season, and were sad to see it go. We would almost definitely attend the games of an Orlando UFL team. Hope to hear more updates!

Did this mickey mouse league fold already? I guess so given the lack of updates.

Folks, you just don’t compete against the NFL and live to tell about it.
